THE world appears to have passed peak booze occurred in 2014. The volume of alcoholic drinks consumed globally fell by 1.4% in 2016, to 250 billion litres. The drop-off is caused by people drinking less beer, which accounts for three-quarters of all alcohol drunk by volume.
Right chart:
German individual has drunk much less beer from about 180 to 130 litres in the period between 1994 and 2016, although their capacity of the consumption outstripped that of other countries.
